Kill Local Search Rankings
Kill local search rankings – If you have and are submitting multiple business locations for your business, insure that they all have their own phone numbers. If you list the same phone number for different business addresses, you are sure to kill your local search rankings. There are a few things that you will want to consider and figure out before you begin your quest for local search domination, which we’ll discuss in the next blog post.

Mike, this makes me think of a related question. When you’re claiming your listing for Google Maps (local business results), should you use your cell phone number? Sometimes it’s easier – and sometimes that’s the main phone a homebased business owner uses – but I wondered if Google could tell or penalize that somehow.

Yes, it often times is, and in my case also, I’ve used my cell number, as that is my main business number, BUT, I think I would have been better off using my other phone number – with an area code that is geographically closer to my local location than the one I used.
Two things – when working towards ranking in local search, it’s important for your information to be identical across all points where it’s entered….InfoUSA, Google Business, etc. So, if your cell phone’s area code is the same as the local you are trying to rank for, and it’s what is used at InfoUSA, Google Business, Yellow Pages, etc. I think you’d totally be fine.
I live in Arlington, Tx – 817 area code. My cell phone is 214 – Dallas area code. I’d have been better off using my other phone number. But, in my opinion, if your cell area code is the same as your business phone and location, and you list your cell phone as your business number everywhere, I think you’d be fine using that….
